Recently, we were searching for something online related to the topic of ‘body shaming’ and realised that there are two sides to the story.
The first, the obvious – not-to-judge-a-book-by-its-cover kind; but the second, the less obvious, I-want-to-justify-my-being-lazy kind.
As much as we stand by the fact that each one of us has the choice and complete freedom to choose how we live our life, it is important to realise that staying in shape is something more deeply connected with our existence than simply “being thin” or whatever it is that the popular notion commands.
We’re not going to get into the benefits of being physically fit, because, let’s face it, there is more than enough said on the topic everywhere. But what’s lacking on the subject is, how does one really balance everything out?
Being physically fit does not always only mean making the time out for exercise.
It can also be reflected in smaller changes made in our daily functioning that lead to having a slightly more active day than before. And then, when these changes are followed consistently, magic happens.
So here are our top 4 ways you can mentally and physically stay in shape in your daily routine.
Walk and Talk – our sedentary lifestyles have had us bound to our chairs for far too long. But, especially with the work from home surge, that can easily change.
Every time you know that you are going to be sitting and talking to someone (physically, over a call, or virtually), time to plug in those headphones and begin walking till you finish.
H2O to the Rescue – ditch the juice box, mocktail, cocktail, or soda based drinks and swap to water and flush those toxins out of your system. At the same time, just like it loosens up mud, water helps loosen up and burn that extra fat out more easily. Set an alarm or download an app to remind you to rehydrate.
Piece it Out – Yes, cut down on empty calories found abundantly in desserts and stuff, but don’t quit cold turkey! Cut down the quantities to smaller pieces until your body stops craving them anymore and see the difference for yourself.
Review your Food Mantras – A good dietician will tell you that you can eat anything and still stay fit. Well it is true, the only trick is knowing what to eat when. Timing is more important than just about anything else when it comes to watching your lifestyle.
Sleep it Out – Another factor which most of us very easily neglect is sleep! Both, the quality and quantity of your sleep counts more than you know!
One last thing, no matter what your age, no matter where you are in life, no matter what time or day of the year it is, tomorrow will always be too late to begin.
So get cracking today.
